The City of Shasta Lake is working to bring a dog park to Akard Park. We are looking for community support and input to help us make this a success. We are seeking feedback at the onset of this process, and to respond to any questions or concerns our community has.
The City has budgeted funds to transform Akard Park to the only Dog Park in the City. The City hopes to address the growing need for an off-leash, safe and legal place for residents to bring their dogs. Additionally, the City also hopes to bring positive change with new, responsible usage to a currently underutilized section of the park.
The City hosted a community meeting on 5/13/2021 at Akard Park. This community meeting began the process of soliciting feedback on the park, and put together a citizen committee to help design elements of the dog park.
City staff has contracted with a landscape architect to put together the design for the park. The current tentative schedule is as follows:
October 2021 to December 2021 - Consultant Design Work
January 2022 to March 2022 - Contractor Procurement
