Planning
The Planning Division is responsible for both current and long-range planning within the City. The Division reviews all land use proposals (e.g., administrative permits, use permits, parcel maps, subdivision maps, property line adjustments, variances, design review, etc.) and ensures compliance with state and local regulations, including, but not limited to, the City’s General Plan, including the Housing Element, and Zoning Code, the California Subdivision Map Act, and California Environmental Quality Act.
The Planning and Zoning Division provides direction and leadership in implementing the goals, objectives, and policies of the City as adopted by the City Council.
The Planning Division also provides technical assistance and staff support to the City’s Technical Advisory Committee and Planning Commission.
Zoning
Zoning regulates land uses within the City. Each parcel in the City is assigned to a zone district which describes allowable land uses within that zone, land use permit requirements, and site development standards pertaining to setbacks, maximum structural height, landscaping, lighting, parking and signs.
The Zoning Code, Title 17 of the Shasta Lake Municipal Code, can be viewed on-line. Zoning information is also available through our GIS interactive maps.
